I recently had the pleasure of working with Noni Lewis during a full cast recording session for the up and coming Animated feature ‘Arthur Christmas’. She’s a highly talented voice actor with a great sense of humor and a professional of the highest caliber; I would not hesitate in recommending her for this type of voice work.

I have directed Noni on half a dozen different productions over the last five years, principally voice work for Poetry Please, BBC Radio Four’s poetry request show which is presented by Roger McGough. It has always been a pleasure to work with Noni: she takes the trouble to prepare the texts in advance of the recordings, and takes direction well. Given how demanding it can be for an actor to rise to the challenge of interpreting a wide range of poetry from across the centuries, I always know that she will rise to the occasion. Her many years of experience as a performer shines through in her insightful interpretation of the text, and it’s clear to the listener that not only is she a versatile actor, but that she also enjoys what she does.

As a director I have worked with Noni several times. During this time she has been able to turn in fantastic performances ranging from farcical comedy to classical tragedy, always remaining truthful to the character. She is very vocally adept, and has performed for me using RP, Cockney, Welsh, East Coast American, and Yorkshire accents.

I’m thrilled with the work that Noni has done for us. After submitting a short brief it was a matter of hours before the audio files were delivered to us, Noni had interpreted the brief perfectly and the job was completed in just one take. Not only this, but the project was completed at a very reasonable rate making it very cost-effective for us. I’ll definitely be going back to Noni when we need any further voice-over work.

Putting the right voice to a character whether it be for radio or TV advertising is no mean feat. Noni’s experience and depth of talent makes this part of the job a cinch. 'From The Mermaid to The Welsh' is about falling between anticipation to disappointment. It rises and falls in emotional tone. Noni was a dream. Her voice a wave rolling through the poem, gathering up all the surrealism, music and pathos the piece needed, before bringing it softly to shore. I don’t think people can perform poetry unless they have hearts as deep as the sea.
